I would suggest not bringing the dress. I know you might want to dress up a bit for those two events, I know I did, however being in pants at the orphanage made it much easier to be able to get on the floor and move easier without having to worry about 'flashing' someone. Also, the oath swearing was so 'over-rated' in my mind. You are ushered in, sit around, listen to a guy talk a bit about adoption, and then it's a 30 second oath. And you can't even take any pictures in there! There are toys and a game table for the kids. To me, it is much easier to play and sit on the floor in pants instead of a dress. I would suggest bringing another pair of pants..maybe a nicer pair, but a pair none the less that you can wear over and over again. I wish I had brought more pants!

Just my two cents though!

I hope you will be able to blog while in China!

Excellent! But you don't need the dress. Nobody dressed up. Honest :)

I wouldn't take the dress. Seriously, pants and a nice shirt will be more than adequate.

I wouldn't take the swim suit either -- the White Swan pool will be FREEZING now (my teenage sons wouldn't even use it, and that was in November!) - of course, if you're not staying at the WS, you may want it.

Socks? You may want them for hanging out in the room.

I did take a long skirt that took no space. It was in the 50's when we left Guangzhou last week so you won't be needing a swimsuit. I took 4 outfits for Zac and 3 pr pants for me They ruin laundry on Shaimen Island so make sure everything is dark colors. Zac has many ruined shirts. I only brought 5 pr of undies. Unless you plan to pitch them while there they can be washed. Also 3 or prs of pjs for G will be fine. If you decide you need more then go shop. I bought several outfits for myself and Zac and Zoe and Zeb while there at the shops leading to the Holiday in. Have a great trip!!!!! Tell director Huang that BaoQi is doing fine. Give G big kisses and enjoy the sites! If you get bored and need suggestions email me and I will help you out. 14 days there and I have the ins!!!!!!

I wouldn't do a dress. Unless this is your most comfortable outfit. No one is dressed up for oath. It is very informal. You are in a large room with a bunch of people you may not know.

Also for the orphanage visit - we all dressed in comfortable pants.

I didn't use a dress while in china. Also, pack enough underwear for the entire trip...it will be nice to not have to wash them!

I just got to thinking...maybe you are only in China 10 days? Then you have plenty of undies LOL! I think everything looks good. Are you ready! I can't wait. I'm so excited for you!

I agree with everyone else, you can ditch the dress outfit.

I had three outfits and I wish I had four. It looks like you'll be good :)

The bus ride to the orphanage is over 3 hours long. Dress comfortably. Plus, depending on if you go to the finding spots, it might be dirty. The place we went first ( my daughter's) I happened to have on sandles and got stuff all over my feet. Not that it mattered between the emotions....
As mentioned, the consulate appt is overrated. No cameras allowed. We didn't even take on the bus b/c we didn't know how secure it would be while we waited inside. Stand up and promise oath and that was it. We were all in a huge waiting room.

One thing that I remember vividly is that on Gotcha Day my little one was crying and scared until she noticed my necklace and then she was entertained with it and it helped her relax into my arms. Maybe that is why you are wearing candy necklaces?
