Magic Blanket

So, Giorgia won't take naps in her crib but clearly she needs them. She has been falling asleep when I put her in her playyard around naptime. She would always crash on her blanket. So one day I put the blanket in a quiet corner on the floor in my family room and call it the magic blanket. Anyway, I laid her on it and told her to take a nap and shockingly she didn't move from it, just gave me a glare and fell asleep. Hmmm. Interesting. Hopefully this will help with naptime at daycare.

Sleep Mastered???

Fingers crossed. G is finally sleeping at night. Here is what worked for me. (so far, so good...only time will tell)

I give her a bath at night with the Lavender Bath wash, then I feed her oatmeal, prunes and a bottle, then brush her teeth. We then go into her room and turn off the lights, turn on her Chinese Lullabies CD, and then her Munchkin crib sound maker. I put her in the crib and she goes right down. Not a peep or anything! I am no longer sleeping in her room. I felt that in China she needed to see me because she would keep waking up the night and just check to make sure I was there. So, this made me believe that I should be sleeping in her room. Ironically, this is not what she needs now. So, for the third night in a row she has been sleeping soundly, by herself, in her own room. I hope and pray this continues...it's really working for me!!! :)

Chinese Lullabies

Munchkin Voice Activated Crib Light (and sound maker)

The sound is just like the sound of mom's heartbeat that you hear in an ultrasound. The sound stops after about 10 minutes - plenty of time for her to drift back off to sleep.

Honeymoon's OVER

My daughter is FANASTIC although the SLEEP Honeymoon is OVER!!!
Calling all you BTDTs...seeking advice on screaming inconsolabily all night. I've done everything. She is bathed with a warm bath using the Lavender wash, fed well, dry diaper, dressed warm but still refuses to sleep. I am sleeping in the bed next to her crib. She is constantly looking for me. I try not to engage her when she is wakes and screams. I just put her back down and rub her back so that she knows I am there.I knew this going into it but feel a little helpless. I do realize that she is probably also dealing with jetlag and grieving. I know that this will last a while. I am ready and prepared for this. My question to all of you is ... am I doing everything that I need to be doing. I would love to hear all and any tips you all had when you first arrived home with your little ones!!! Thanks. Stephe

Is your child getting enough sleep?

Parents often think that if their child isn't falling asleep before 10 p.m. it's because she doesn't need much sleep. But experts agree the opposite may be true. Children who are sleep deprived or overtired at bedtime may actually become hyper.

To see if your child falls into this category, ask yourself the following questions: Is my child cranky, irritable or overtired during the day? Do I have to wake him most mornings? Does he frequently fall asleep while riding in the car? If the answer is yes to any of these, your child may not be getting enough sleep.

Following is a list of recommended hours of sleep (nap and night included) for different ages. Note these are approximations and may vary by individual.

• Birth to 1 year: 10 to 16 hours
• 1 to 2 years: 11 to 16 hours
• 2 to 3 years: 11 to 14 hours
• 3 to 4 years: 10 to 13 hours
• 4 to 5 years: 10 to 12 1/2 hours
• 5 to 6 years: 10 to 11 1/2 hours
• 6 to 7 years: 9 to 11 1/2 hours
