Asian Heritage Month

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

Americans who trace their ancestry to Asia and the Pacific Islands have contributed much to our Nation. During Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month, we highlight their importance to our great Nation.

Asian/Pacific Americans have made our country better with their talents and hard work. Their values and commitment to family and community have helped shape and strengthen America . These citizens speak many languages, honor countless traditions, and practice different faiths, but they are bound by a shared commitment to freedom and liberty. The diversity among Asian/Pacific Americans adds to the cultural fabric of our society.

Asian/Pacific Americans have enriched our culture, excelling in many fields, including education, business, science, technology, government, sports, and the arts. We especially honor those Asian/Pacific Americans who have answered the call to protect the cause of freedom by serving in our Armed Forces. These brave men and women set a powerful example for all Americans.

As we celebrate Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month, we are reminded of the richness of the Asian and Pacific cultures. Asian/Pacific Americans enhance the American experience and contribute to our country's legacy of diversity.

To honor the achievements and contributions of Asian/Pacific Americans, the Congress, by Public Law 102-450, as amended, has designated the month of May each year as "Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month."

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America , do hereby proclaim May 2008 as Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month. I call upon the people of the United States to learn more about the history of Asian/Pacific Americans and their many contributions to our Nation and to observe this month with appropriate programs and activities.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-ninth day of April, in the year of our Lord two thousand eight, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-second.

Easy Meal - Fajitas

I saw this post at Budget Barbie and wanted to share. The full article is here. This is my cliff note version. Budget Barbie found John Soules Foods "Angus Beef Fajitas" at Costco. It's $9.99 for a 24 oz. (1.5 lbs.) package of pre-seasoned, pre-cooked Angus beef. A cut of good quality beef for under ten dollars, much less Angus beef, which runs almost $10 for an 8 oz. cut. So try it. Since it's pre-cooked, all you have to do is reheat in oven, on stove or in microwave. Saute your veggies and heat the tortilla's up in the microwave and top off with some shredded lettuce, mix cheeses and sour cream. The package says it serves 8 but we all know that if you add some rice, bean, chips and salsa...it can feed more than that. Easy, Cheap AND Quick!!!

So who's coming and bringing the Margaritas??? LOL

Hmm, Martha Stewart???

What dog breed are you? I'm a Border Collie! Find out at Dogster.com

I'm crafty and resourceful like Martha but that about the only thing accurate about this one...but it is a BIG one! :)

nag-less morning routine

So, I found this post this morning while surfing the net and it was intriguing.

“Every morning my mom officially declares war on: the alarm clock, then my sister, then my dad and then the toaster. You never know what to expect during my family’s get-ready-for-school-routine and the only ‘routine’ thing about it is that it usually involves a lot of yelling and nagging."

"We actually miraculously managed to stop this terrible cycle by adding a few simple ‘parent hacks’ and I wanted to share them so you too can save your relationships, your day and your voice (if you are anything like my mom)”

So, these are the tips she recommends. This is my cliff notes version. See full version here.

Nightly Routine: Do everything you can possibly do the night before to help those early mornings!

Launching Pad: Create a space where all stuff will be placed at night and waiting to go in the morning.

Checklist: Make a Large Print Laminated Checklist to put at the launching pad with what everyone should have before they leave. An example she gave was:

___Water bottle
___Lunch box
___Softball bag
___Backpack
___PE class bathing suit
___PE class towel
___(SAT Book- if you have tutoring)

Kitchen Timer System: Use a timer and figure out how much time it take to get completely ready and out the door. If the kids can do it faster, they can adjust their wake up time! If they are late, the next morning they had to wake up earlier.

My co workers also told me it was National Porn Day! Nice. Just what I wanted to hear! I know that it's Hugh Hefner's & Jenna Jamisons Birthday today too but geesh. Then they sent me this video. It cute but dirty!!

After much research on the internet...It's NOT NATIONAL PORN DAY! Thank God!!!

Cut the Crap

I stumbled upon a blog today, here, and her challenge for the day is to clean out your fridge. Hmmm, think I'll jump on board. I must read more, this may be the solution to my clutter problem.
"So, today's Cut the Crap assignment is to clean out your refrigerator and plan meals using up everything that will otherwise spoil in the next week. Who knows, this might save you some grocery money. Check back tonight and I'll have an update with pictures of the clean refrigerator, a list of what I had to throw out, and my meal plan for the next week."
